What collective consumer protection means for you — in plain language.
What is a representative action?
A representative action is a lawsuit brought by an authorised consumer organisation (a “Qualified Entity”) on behalf of a larger group of consumers who have been harmed by the same trader — for example by unfair contract terms, misleading advertising or unsafe products. Instead of each person going to court alone, one organisation acts for everyone.
Why does it matter?
- You don’t have to face a large company alone or pay for your own lawsuit.
- Small individual damages (a few euros per person) can still be recovered when many consumers are affected.
- Court decisions can stop unfair practices for all consumers, not just those who complained.
How can I take part?
Follow our News section — when a representative action relevant to you is prepared, we will publish clear instructions on how affected consumers can register. You can also contact us if you believe your consumer rights have been violated.
